Ordinals and Cardinals Numbers

Función.
Los números cardinales expresan cantidad mientras que los ordinales expresan orden espacial o temporal. Son adjetivos.
Escritura.
A partir de 4th (inclusive), se escriben casi igual que los números cardinales, aunque hay excepciones, como por ejemplo, nine y ninth, twelve y twelfth... excepto en el final, que se añade al número cardinal alguno de los sufijos -th, -st, -nd y -rd, que sirve para transformar el número de cardinal en ordinal.

En la tabla no están puestos todos los números pero se pueden deducir a partir de los que hay: Sabiendo los números cardinales y mirando en la tabla los ordinales que van del 1º al 10º, el 21º, y las decenas (20º, 30º, 40º, etc.), se pueden formar todos.



Para indicar una repetición, emplearemos la palabra times después del número: three times - tres veces. five times - cinco veces. Pero existen dos excepciones: once - una vez. twice - dos veces.


Se usa la palabra “and” para unir las partes de un número ordinal grande, igual que se hace con los números cardinales. Se usa la coma o un espacio en blanco para separar los millares.
Ejemplos.

• 22º = Twenty-second.
• 35º = Thirty-fifth.
• 357º = Three hundred and fifty-seventh.
• 1,237th = One thousand and two hundred and thirty-seventh.
• 123,456,789th = One hundred and twenty-three million, four hundred and fifty-six thousand and seven hundred and eighty-ninth.
